Dear Imaginary Audience,

I am loving the Instant buddies I make with shooting weddings! Valgerdur is cousin’s with Katherine Nielsen Currin, whose wedding i shot earlier this summer. I was so excited to book Valgerdur’s wedding, and once we met, I knew we would be fast friends! She’s so cute, and a little feisty also, which of course I relate too. Her wedding was a ball, and I had a blast photographic it with the help of lovely Beth Hontzas!

Dear Imaginary Audience:

I had a great phone call recently from a buddy, Alex henig Jones, wanting to know if I would be interested in shooting for their Fall/Winter Print ads....WOULD I!!?!! SO EXCITING! We worked with this wonderful Model, Debbie, who was such a natural and professional all at the same time...Loved it! ALso, Alex and her sister in law all got in on the action as well! Fun day-and holy moly-THOSE FURS ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! You don’t realize how much fun they are until you try 10 on in a day! So luxurious, i would Highly recommend going to see what they have, the furs they brought to the shoot were all so gorgeous!!

Lets talk about maternity pictures

Dear Imaginary Audience,
Maybe its the Southern, Episcopalian in me, but I am not so sure I would be comfortable having my picture taken nude.....and pregnant. This form of portraiture became hugely popular with Annie Leibovitz’s Photograph of Demi Moore. And rightfully so! The image is absolutely beautiful, but if you look at the photograph, Demi, a trained professional actress, Looks totally natural and comfortable standing in her birthday suit. The look on her face is everything. If she looked like this was her first nude photo shoot, you would see a totally different photograph, that would make everyone who looked at it just as uncomfortable. A side note, this was not to be the cover, but more as a baby gift Annie leibovitz photographed for Demi--i’m guessing if Demi knew it was to be the cover she would not have looked quite as relaxed.

Dear imaginary Audience:
Haley is one of my best buds, and I was more that ecstatic to have been asked to shoot her wedding! I mean. what could be more fun, really, I already love the bride and groom, and I know all the people involved! Haley and Matt live in Austin, TX, but wanted to get married close to her roots in Auburn, AL.....(note: she doesn’t actually pull for auburn, just had her wedding there). we all had a ball, and I really enjoyed shooting a friends wedding!!!

Dear imaginary audience:

Well....what can i say?? Indulge me a little while I skip down Memory lane....When I first got laid off, I referred to myself as “unemployed” to get sympathy, or sometimes “fun-employed” when taking advantage of the new hours I was keeping. My friends and family were always right there at the end of my statement(whatever it was)..with “you aren’t unemployed, you are self-employed.” I explained that it was trendy to be unemployed, everyone was doing it, and that i got one year to live into the trend before I really had to focus on my career. This was the rough part of my story that began the journey....you know...the part of my story that Oprah talks about before introducing me and what I have become. ok, well, that might be taking it a bit far...i mean...she is retiring this year so, i don’t know if I will hit that level that quickly...

So here we are a year later from my last official day as a Corporate employee, and it has been quite a while since I have thought of myself as unemployed. It has been an amazing year, and I am so grateful for all of it-and my people who kept me going when I may have felt a little sorry for myself. Special shout out to my family, my girls, the lawyers i love, and of course Jaroe who got me jobs, kept me fed, and wouldn’t let me sink in my thinking-or at least, if I were there would pull me out of my self loathing ways.

I have learned more in this past year than I have in the past 3 years of my former job. I have learned about business, photography, equipment, budgeting, but mostly I have learned to listen to myself, and honor my time. I still have “miles to go before I sleep”, but I Love that I am beginning to think of my time as valuable. As a staff photographer, I was made to believe my time was the company’s. I was expected to travel 4-5 days every week with no sign of relief.....but now, i not only enjoy my time, but people pay literally for my time. It is a whole new way of thinking about yourself.

I have loved this past year, and I know it will get easier and harder all the same time...but I must say I am just so grateful for where i am right now in life. I mean....on my year anniversary of being pulled into a small conference room, I was in london shooting for Matisyahu....and instead of a prepackaged Hampton inn breakfast, this morning i picked fresh blackberries and blueberries at the family farm and edited images on the porch while a summer shower cooled things off. Needless to say, Im loving my life.
A lot of exciting things in the works, i can’t yet reveal..but stay tuned to be the first to know.....and not to mention...lot of weddings on the books. EEKS! CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHERE I AM NEXT YEAR!!

LONDON!!

So...I jumped over the pond to jolly ole England where I spent a week playing, Photographing, and visiting friends. I was able to shoot Matis again, which is always fun!

Jaroe was there for biz, so we had a real Holiday, which was awesome! WHile I miss my old job of traveling sometimes, I really am excited I now get to choose where to go, and how to spend my time. I love traveling, I hate that i was at traveling so much with my old job that I couldn’t see the new in a city. I love the way traveling puts your life and all your problems into perspective, at least it does for me.

I loved london, and I have so many photos I had trouble picking down the ones I wanted to share. A facebook album will be up shortly with all of them. While I was there I was able to head out to the British Country side to visit my friend Louisa, and her husband, James. Amazing! That deserves its own blog post in itself! Until then, enjoy these:

DEAR IMAGINARY AUDIENCE:
Let me just say....When I booked Katherine Nielsen’s wedding, I knew it would be amazing...Totally lived up to my expectations!! I had so much fun photographing this wedding in beautiful Sewanee! I love the atmosphere up there, it reminded me a lot of where I went to school, and it was neat to see how much the people who went there truly love it! I mean...how could you not love it??!?

When I heard my old next door neighbor, Bonnie, had twins on my birthday, the first reaction I had was “that is wonderful”.....my second reaction was, “ i really hope I get to photograph those small muffins!” 2 days later, I got a phone call asking if I could stop by one sunday afternoon to get a good picture since her brothers where in town. I was so excited! Look at how wonderfully beautiful these babies are!!

L’chaim/Matisyahu shoot

While I was down at the Hangout festival, I had a shoot scheduled with Matisyahu. I was MORE THAN amped about that opportunity (thank you to my friends at TAO). THen....I was blown away when Matis’s Manager (Jason) called and asked if I could Shoot with a branding Campaign in mind for L’chaim Kosher Vodka. YIPPIE YIPPIE YIPPIE!! My first branding campaign and its for Vodka none the less....

I was kind of nervous, but nerves are good! I met Matis Friday night before he headed to Shabbat. He has such a presence, but IS THE MOST GENTLE GIANT I HAVE EVER MET. He ooozes peace, but I love that he also has such strong values and respect for his beliefs. Also, He is pretty funny which i don’t think I was expecting. I loved shooting him, and L’CHAIM was more than excited about my images! AWESOME!

WEll....I fought it...but my 30th birthday got here anyways...and you know what? IT KICKED ASS! Im serious! I am lucky enough to be surrounded by people who love me, and more importantly know when it comes to my Birthday, the more attention, the better! SOOOOOOO, When Orange Beach decided to throw me a huge birthday bash in the form of a music festival, I was honored.

HA! jon holloway called to second shoot a wedding again...and when jon holloway calls, you don’t ignore...here is why: there is always at least one awesome moment involved.....

This time, he needed me to ride in a helicopter from the ceremony, to the reception while he finished photographing the formal shots.....hmmm....YEP. I WIN! here are some shots from the heli!!
